Doctor David McArdle
to our Colorado Membership
David McArdle MD
Dr. McArdle is a Board Certified Emergency Physician who works at the Evans Army Community Hospital,
Fort Carson, Colorado. He previously worked in several major trauma centers and his early training was at the
Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland. He has been active in training physicians for Advanced
Trauma Life Support at the University Hospital of Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Denver General.
He was an ambulance attendant in his youth and lived through the development of what has now become the
Department of Transportation EMT program. He was a volunteer fire fighter in Greensburg, Pennsylvania and
Prince Georges’ County Maryland. He has extensive training and experience in a wide variety of specialized
rescue operations. He has been the physician advisor for the Aurora Fire Department and was part of the
Physician Advisory Board that developed the Denver Metro Paramedic Protocols. He is very active in
preparation and training with the Medical Center of Aurora’s disaster and safety programs. His work as a
trauma center designation site surveyor for the Colorado Department of Health has been primarily in rural areas.
Dr. McArdle is a P.O.S.T. certified Colorado Peace Officer. He has been a reserve officer with the Denver
Police Department since 1995. He currently is assigned to District 2, which covers much of northeast Denver.
He received the Distinguished Service Award in 2003 for arresting 4 armed juveniles simulating a car jacking
while off duty.
He has been involved with the development of several Tactical Medical Support (TMS) units at the state and
local level. He was a CONTOMS instructor for the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland. He
has promoted 3 basic CONTOMS classes in Colorado since 1993. He took the first SERT class offered at
USUHS in 2004. In 2005 he developed a Combat ATLS module at Denver General for a military team
preparing to deploy to the Middle East. He had developed a lecture “Medical Considerations for the First
Responding Police Officer" as part of the outreach program for state & local training at the Federal Law
Enforcement Training Center. (FLETC)
He had been involved with the National Tactical Officer’s Association for many years. He has attended many of
their schools. He is medical advisor to the Rocky Mountain Tactical Team Association and is an instructor with
the Special Operations Immersion Course held at the US Air Force Academy annually. In 2006 that program
moved to the MOUT facility at Ft. Carson. He is also part of the instructor cadre for the Law Enforcement
Mountain Operations School sponsored by the Okanogan Integrated Border Enforcement Team. He is a charter
member of the ACEP section on Tactical Emergency Medical Support. He is a member of the Physician Section
of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He medical advisor for Colorado STAR and is developing
training modules for the “tactical chain of survival."
